A worker has died after falling from a 100 foot cell tower in Saline County. Lieutenant Scott Courtney with the Saline County Sheriff's Office tells FOX16 that it happened at a tower on Cross Road around 10:30am.

Terry Thompson ,51, was a sub-contractor from Lucedale Mississippi. Thompson worked for Dynamic Wireless who was hired to deconstruct the tower.

Thompson worked on towers for 37 years.

The Saline County Sheriff's Department and OSHA are both conducting investigations.
Meter Safety Main Disconnect

I work at a Rural Co-op but just in the office. We have a lineman that is the biggest jerk in the world. He was recently dispatched on a call for a customer that was having electrical problems they described as flickering lights and a smell like burning plastic. The lineman was pissed as he was on call and wanted to watch a ball game. He reported to the job but that night the building burned down to the ground. The customer maintains the lineman checked the power at the meter pole, said there was no problem on his side, turned the power on to the customers side of the meter and immediately left. Even though the customer and apparently a witness screamed at him that when he turned on the power there was an explosion that shook the whole building. He simply told them he was only responsible to the meter, his side was working, and jumped in his truck and drove away. Not even shutting the power off at the Main disconnect. Hard to believe but apparently the Broncos were playing in a few minutes. This story seems unlikely but it is looking more and more like it is mostly true. Why would the lineman turn on the power past the meter for any reason? Let alone when there was obviously a problem on the customers side of the meter. Easy to deduce if he could not find any problem on our side of the meter the reported problem must be on the customers side. I am really troubled by this whole thing as someone lost everything they worked for and as a result.

RF radiation exposure

I have a friend that found out the hard way that microwave tower emit extremely dangerous amounts of radiation the hard way. Now that he's been looking into it, he's seeing that companies are installing these mini- microwave sites onto or nearby poles. Are any of you being trained about exposure and are any of you seeing them being installed onto your poles?

Read more about RF Radiation here
http://www.alikelydeath.com/index_Page438.htm

Safety Dismantling OverHead Power Line

Hello all,
First Happy new year to all forum members.

Second, Our company is undergoing a project where at one stage of our work we would have to Dismantle a stretch of Overhead line. Being the Companies site engineer i would like to make sure that i am aware of the right SAFE procedure to follow while dismantling the overhead line.
Here is basic procedure i will follow:

1. Check all PPE equipment for safety. (Hard Hats are rated to work on or near Overhead lines.)(Rubber gloves tested to be with out air leaks.)
2. Shutdown and De-energization of the stretch of overhead line we are going to work on.
3. Connect the new dead underground system to the existing Overhead system that's going to be intact after work is done.
4. for the stretch that's going to be removed, I would tie a nylon rope to each phase at the H-Pole where dismantling is to be started, and the nylon rope to be of sufficient length and be tied to the H-pole.
5. Each phase cable would be disconnected from its respective tension insulator and the cable then slowly lowered by the nylon rope that has been tied to it earlier.
6. After all cables been dismantled, A Lines man would climb to the top of the pole and remove all Brackets, Insulators found at the top of the wooden poles.
7. A crane comes in to lift the Wooden pole, after the Steel Wire has been properly attached to the wooden pole, excavation around the pole would start, and dismantling from its respective wooden block commenced.

I would like a review of this procedure, if i am missing any steps or if i am unclear on any of the steps above, i would love and appreciate any help possible.
