I was just playing around in here and was wondering if there are any power linemen visiting this new site?

Hello Woodwalker, just found this site this morning. Been kind of keepin' things inside this weekend with all the rain we've been having here in South Texas. Thinking about everyone working out on the East Coast. That started off pretty bad with one worker already fallen. Let's pray that there will not be anymore. I used to work for a contractor, (I won't mention any names, but they are a sponsor on this site ;) ). Now I work for a local. Do mostly military bases and customers with there own private primary systems. Tell ya what, you sure can run into a lot of different types of builds from one customer to the next. Kinda keeps you on your toes!

I hear that, it sounds like TX has has it's share of rain these day's. That had to be the worst feeling I have felt. Being called out of a nice warm bed into cold wet weather. Kinda like Stevie Ray said "can't stand the weather"!

Take care and stay safe.

Hey, Everyone I am from Texas to. I am suffering from that old cabin fever myself! I am not a powerlineman but I am a lineman. How come all of those lineman from Seguin rodeo are not on this site? You really did them some justice with those cool pictures. That was a good rodeo!! Anyway I will holler back again, I just wanted to see if my avator works. PS lets pray for the guys over on the east coast.

 Yeah, things are not looking too good over there.

3 fatalities so far, and the media doesn't seem to be helping too much. Was watching CNN a couple of nights ago, they were interviewing some resident who was pissed that his lights were not back on. He complained that it was 3 days already and he still had no power. This morning, I caught a reporter from CNN or FOX grilling aPEPCO spokeperson. The reporter was demanding to know when the power would be restored. Poor guy tried to explain that there were over 700 trees that came down, most of them on the power lines and it would take some time. Would you believe the next question was, "Do you think that this problem is a result of the power company simply not being prepared for this storm?" Typical.......

Anyway, I did see RSI trucks on the tube, not sure where they were, saw some Pike trucks and other utilities trucks.Regardless of if there are contractors or utilities or whatever, everybody there needs to stay focused on what is going on. 3 fatalities is 3 too many. Those workersare going to be there a while and lets pray that no else gets hurt or killed.

God rest their souls!

I have always said that power linemen were the last unsung hero's of the world. I wonder why is it that one can wake up on a Sunday and turn on CNN only to see a summary of the Lumberjack Championships or a documentary on Underwater Divers on the Discovery Channel? Yet to this day I've never seen a documentary or special on Linemen and the elements they must deal with from day to day. Not to mention most of the crisis work they perform is away from family and friends dealing with irate customers and in a ravaged area passing 12,000 to 120,000 volts of electricity in wires that are typically 40-80 feet up in the air.

It gives me the blues, so from a telco linedawg to the all power linemen out there, my hats off to ya

Here's a press release from Allegheny Power. Great Work! ;)

QUOTE
Allegheny Power responds to Hurricane Isabel
Allegheny Power has restored power to more than 99 percent of the customers affected by the storms associated with Hurricane Isabel. High winds and heavy rains moved through our service area on Thursday and Friday and caused more than 238,000 power outages across a large portion of Allegheny Power's service territory in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. We have restored power to more than 237,000 customers since the storm began.

At this time, we have approximately 650 customers out of power with more than 150 individual cases of trouble. We have restored service to more than 237,000 customers since the storm first hit on Thursday. Allegheny Power crews began working on the problems immediately, and they will continue to work around the clock until all customers are back in service

biggrin.gif Hi all I am not a lineman but my huband is, and a damn good one too haha. He and i spend a lot of time on here looking around, he can't use a computer but gets me to type things for him. He is a contractor for Southern Electric out of Flowood Miss. He is working the storm in washington dc area. don't know when he will get home. They are working the night shift and news reporters and sight seers are holding up progress. I saw on teh news someone said anything more than 48 hrs without power is unexceptable that pissed me off i wanted to knock his stupid ass out haha. These guys are doing all they can.It is dangerouse work, some people just don;'t understand that. He said peope were throwing bricks at local pepco trucks, busting windows out. thats awful. Lineman are brave men. and linemans wifes are tugh women. My husband always says: LINEMEN GET PAID TO GET HIGH. he has a tag on his company truck tht says that haha ya'll be safe. :P

Hello Alleycat, I hear ya on the guy that said it was unacceptable! Hope your ol' man stays safe out there. I try to put myself in the publics shoes and think what I do if my power was out for that long. Well, it happened here in Texas several years ago and my wife and I did without internet and cable for awhile. No big deal. I worked in Gulfport a few years back when Hurricane Jeorges? came through there. I guess we where in one of the roughest parts of town because there national guardsmen all over the place. But, no ane jacked with us. Matter of fact, folks would came out of there houses to offer us cookies, sodas, water, whatever......people who barely had anything were offering to share with us what they had. I guess it just pisses me off that some of our guys have gotten killed, and I know their deaths were not blacked out on T.V. there, but ya still have complainers.

Tell your husband to watch his ass out there, I hear D.C.
can get pretty rough. Matter of fact, I'm popping open a bottle of Shiner Bock to him! ;)

Hey Midnight Lasher, what part of Texas are you in?

How 'bout them Longhorns! I'm in San Antonio. Didn't get to the rodeo there, but I did see the pics these guys have here. I think this website will turn out pretty good. Been tryin' to find some good safety reports to give them for links. Woodwalker has a pretty good post on safety in the safety board.

I was trying to get an Avatar, but I could have sworn that I read that ya gotta have some kind of graphics program.
Gotta nice pic of a custom Harley that I want to use, but I don't have any way to reduce it's size.

Well, from one grimple to another, take care and stay safe.

I'll stick to my Shiner! ;)

Hello 639trbl, yea pardner, we took it to 'em 63-18. Uh, yea, Arkansas took it too us, don't have ta remind me. biggrin.gif

Actually, I was kind of switching back and forth watching Arkansas vs Alabama, man, what a game. Gotta hand it to
those Razorbacks for that comeback.

Did some storm work in Arkansas. Worked in Little Rock, Conway, and Texarkana. Pretty country. No Shiner Bock there then :( .

You take care of yourself too.
