I was there yesterday as well, trying to get in that class. I wanted to know what the deal was with the last list (with 26 names) the instructor had that was hand written?
I really wanted to get in that class, just finished Pop's ECH class in december.

So they are getting free training lol until some1 in the class quits or Mr. Bushman boots some1; I hope they all get in. To Onecell, how did you attend the school 2yrs ago and you an 3rd yr apprentice? That doesnt add up..

okay.. first of all; This course is not ECONMT 101 Electrical Craft Helper. Second; you cant take the electrical linemen course in the winter session. And Third; The winter session has already past.

What you might wanna doo, is take the ECONMT 101 Electrical Craft Helper Course for the spring semester, and register for the Electrical Linemen Course for fall. Bye doing this, the school will give you first dibbs on any electrical course you take. Thus, giving you an earlier appointment date for registation.

Dont Wait! This class will fill-up before regular continuing students can register!
Know your appointment date and time! And get in the class!

You dont wanna be one one these students that walk in the class thinking there going to be added on.

You want to go in knowing your on the list.

Just like Hardworker! said. Theres a few cats in the class thats not in the class, but waiting for someone to drop out.

You dont wanna be in that postion.

Peace and one love.

I'm enrolled in the LA Trade Tech pole climbing class for fall 2010. I just finished the electrical craft helper class with Pop last month. How was the pole climbing class overall? Do they provide the equipment or do we have to buy it ourselves? (Belts, gaffs, tools, etc.) By the way I'm only 19 years old and this looks like a great career with many opportunities so I hope it works out, thanks in advance.

At the beginning it was really cool but towards the end it really was horrible! I'm not going to bash the class and the instructor; I will just say that some of the ppl that received their climbing certification didn't really earn it or deserve it like some others did! By giving them a cert all its doing is setting these ppl up for failure and wasting companies time and money that want REALLY good candidates that really have a great change being a Lineman. This especially is true with Local 18! To answer your other question; the class provides all the equipment you will need you just need to buy good boots if you don't already have them. Good luck 2U!! You will learn some good things in the class; the instructor has a lot of knowledge about the trade mainly dealing with DWP/SCE. MAKE SURE YOU WORK HARD AND MAKE THE INSTRUCTOR PUSH YOU TO TRULY EARN YOUR CLIMBING CERT! TAKE PRIDE IN YOURSELF AND THIS TRADE BY DOING SO!!

Do you mean horrible as in it wasn't organized or what?
On the first day of class are we supposed to show up ready to climb at the pole yard or does the instructor give an introduction and handouts?
Does the class consist of written tests and physical tests or is it all physical?
And one more question, does LA DWP / SCE visit the yard and talk to the instructor to see who has potential for employment?
Yea I understand you about the people that you say are getting set up for failure. I'm actually really excited for this class and I'm willing to give it 110%. I'm trying to soak in everything I can to prepare myself for this kind of work. I have a family friend that is a lineman and he is taking me to his work yard and is just showing me the basics to climbing. He doesn't let me go no higher than 15 feet but I understand it's for safety reasons so I just practice the basics he has taught me as far as having a good form and technique, but hey I can't complain because the more knowledge I have the better, after all he is showing me on his own time. Yea I do have a lot of confidence in myself but I know its not just going to get handed to me, I know I'm going to have to put in my part also. Yea I have a lot respect for the people doing this kind of work.
