Innovative thieves still end up arrested
By Enterprise Staff
A couple of alert Entergy employees caught two men working to remove some of the company's overhead wire in a bucket truck Tuesday afternoon.
Morehouse Sheriff's chief deputy Mike Tubbs said Entergy employees noticed the two men were not wearing necessary safety equipment while working alongside the Bonita Road.
"That's because they wanted to get done as quickly as possible," Tubbs said.
A few phone calls were made and authorities learned that the men were employees of a Bossier City cable service who were not supposed to be in Morehouse Parish at all. The Shreveport company was unaware its employees were doing this, Tubbs said.
When Sheriff's deputies arrived, the men had already cut off about 750 feet of wire, valued at almost $8,000.
Tubbs said they were stripping the wire for the metal in order to sell it at scrap yards.
Cecil R. Hinds, 34, and Greg D. Nelly, 33, both of Bossier City, were arrested and booked into the parish jail for attempted felony theft.
Other sheriff's offices in the area have been contacted to determine if Hinds and Nelly stole wire in nearby cities. Entergy is assisting in the investigation, Tubbs said.
