I'm not aware of anything that might help you other than working with it and picking it up over time.

As for as rhymes go, I don’t know any. I just made a little table to go off of. I also carried around a scrap module I cut out of a splice and studied it when ever I had free time.

The first 25 pair ya just got to get and you will. Just know the first 100 pr. binders blue, orange, green, brown..easy right. 1-25 blue, 26-50, orange, 51-75 green and 76 to 100 brown. So I just take that basic 100 and do this. Pair 300 is 4X3=12 black orange group (12), violet slate pair(25). Pair 306 is 4X3+1=13 so it's the green black group (13) red blue pair (6). Pair 352 again 4X3+3=15 so slate black group(15) white orange pair(2). Don't know if this makes any sense but it always worked for me. It's always based on 100 pair...Pair 601 WHAT??? 4X6+1 blue white red group white blue pair as you know there is no violet slate groups so you just start over. Hope this helps ya, now that I've written it out, I'm confused. :oh_shit:

When you are sitting around or driving give your chart to your girl, wife, and or friends, and have them just call out numbers. Start with 1-25, as you get better do 1-600 with binder colors. Theres no easy way, but this worked for me!

these are the basics.. your binder groups are essentially reversed. however one exception.. instead of 25 combinations like your pairs.. there are only the first 24 being used.. you'll never see a slate violet binder group..

then, for each 600 pair (24 groups of 25 pairs) they get an additional outer binder marker..

white for the first 600

then red for 601-1200

black for 1201-1800

yellow for 1801-2400

violet 2401-3000

generally there are no larger cables in our area than 3000 pairs..(for pic cable, not sure how many went in pulp cable) i know of only one exception and that was a 3600 pair cable that was run thru one of the boston harbor tunnels.. i believe it was 26 guage.. and nearly impossible to splice..

hopefully you won;t be thrown into the fire without someone beating the code into you.. i was taught by an oldtimer 40+ years who would not let me start a job without giving him the specifics. and after you splice your first 600 pairs or so you'll be a pro.. especially if using a 710 or 3m machine .. where you have to bulk splice 25 pairs at a wack.. if your doing picabonds piece meal.. then it might take longer..

later and best of luck

pete

When we were starting out we started each day with 25 push ups to the colour code. Typically 100-200 push ups a day at first. I learned quick. :oh_shit:
