Any one ever get involved with contracting any tower work?
I hung an antenna today for a small CATV operation.
I don't think my insurance would cover me on this? say what
Any one know what the coverages and classifacations are for this type of work?
It was only a 50 ft climb off an 8 story building.
Nice view though kewl wish I would have brought my digi cam.

Hey LAMF,
I have never done any tower work, unless you call hanging my Buds wescos from a 50 ft tower.
It was on the ground though. It wasnt on top of a 8 story building though
That would have been a great picture. Dont feel bad I never have a camera when I need it
My brother in law used to do towers all over I will ask him some stuff next time I see him.

The good thing is I get to go back up there next week. They called today and said that they were recieving the wrong signal
.
I was on the tower they were in the HE with radio as I was tweeking it. they didn't have it on a set they were using an old analog SAM to tune it and they were on the wrong Frequency. LMAO
EASY MONEY as long as the weather aint too nasty!

tower work sucks..take it from a steeplejack (8yrs tower erection and site installation ) the per-diem is great the company truck is great..watchin' friends die will sour u on all that real fast...workin out of town away from home is cool for a little while but when u start spending 6-8 wks stretches on the road livin in motels w/ the same smelly fools u work with all day...well u start thinkin about new careers...my p.o finally convinced me to quit tower work..i really had no choice in the matter......

btw..the insurance coveage depends on what you're doing at the time i think..how high you have to climb etc.etc...i know alot of the work my old companies used to bid on required one million dollar blanket policies...makes it hard to get out there and work for yourself unless u sub-contract under someone else who carries the policy..or just lie :)

LAMF----I'VE DONE SOME SIDE JOBS ON TOWERS--REBULBING THE CLEARANCE LIGHTS---WHEN I WAS YOUNGER!! QUIT IT CAUSE OF AGE AND INSURANCE--MY COMPANY INSURANCE WAS NULL AND VOID IF I FELL OR GOT HURT surrender ----PLUS NOBODY IS/WAS WILLING TO PAY FOR THE WORK--AT LEAST WHAT IT WAS WORTH!! WHEN I WAS IN THE SERVICE IN TX--DAD WOULD CALL WITH A JOB AND I'D DRIVE 8 HRS TO CLIMB A RADIO TOWER FOR THE LOCAL RADIO STATION --1 WAS 385FT AND ANOTHER WAS JUST OVER 500--IF I CLIMBED TO THE TOP AND REPLACED ALL THE LAMPS, THEY PAID FOR THE LAMPS AND I GOT $1.00 PER FOOT UP TO 500 FT AND IT WENT TO $2.00 A FOOT AFTER THAT----AND PAYMENT WAS CASH MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF IT JUST HAD TO GO SAY HALFWAY TO CHANGE 1 LAMP--I CHARGED $2.50/FT!! IT DIDN'T TAKE ME LONG AND THAT WAS GOOD MONEY FOR A GI AND WAS WORTH THE 16 HR ROUND TRIP DRIVE--CAUSE THEN GAS WAS $.33 A GALLON!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND BEER WAS A LOT CHEAPER ON THE AIR BASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Climed a water tower for the city once to repair a broken float. Don't remember the date, but it was the week after New Years. Had to go down inside the tank, that wasn't too bad, but I almost froze my A$$ off coming down. Only time my beard has ever froze.
