OK I found this, Now what I want to know How often dose your company replace hard hats???

olo131

OSHA, ironically, does not specify the service life of a hard hat, and there is no standard expiration time frame for hard hats. The hard hat manufacturer can recommend a replacement guideline for its products, but hard hat life span may vary significantly based upon the conditions at each work site. Ultimately, an employer is responsible for defining a responsive and appropriate solution for hard hat service life issues

Useful Life of a Hard Hat
Determining a specific time frame for hard hat replacement at your site will take some research. As a general guideline, most manufacturers recommend replacing hard hats every five years regardless of outward appearance. If work conditions include exposure to higher temperature extremes, sunlight, or chemicals, hard hats should be replaced after two years of use. Some manufacturers recommend the replacement of the hard hat suspension every 12 months, regardless of appearance. Careful review of each work site is critical to ensure that degradation of PPE is not being accelerated due to extreme work conditions.

General Guidelines
Supplying and enforcing the use of hard hats is only half the job. Safety officials must implement and maintain a hard hat replacement program to ensure that hard hats are providing the level of protection intended. This is not only necessary, but well worth the effort when considering the implications of providing a hard hat that has outlived its usefulness. Check with the hard hat manufacturer for additional tips, guidelines, and warnings.

I think my co was trying to spend some money before the end of the year and it was brought up.... Everything I read was vague so I thought I would ask what everyone else does!!

My first was 7 years old before it was replaced the one I have now is 3 years old.

We also have to replaced ours if it hits the ground while "erected" haha.gif in a bucket truck, or if it hits the ground while on a ladder.

Ok, Everyone check the time stamp inside the hard hat now! Let's see who has the oldest one!

Darn. Now I have to go out to the shop and check.

No cheating devil-smiley-024[1].gif! Check the one you are wearing now.

Yeah you got me. Here are my pics. I am a little ashamed at how old these are. My newest hat is 225 miles away right now in my bucket truck. Oh well, here goes....

The black hat is out of date...7 of 2004. The grey hat doesn't even have a date stamp, a sticker inside says 2/98! It also has 8 button attachments for the suspension and I haven't been able to find one for it. The XLRS white hat is dated 03/13/04. That one is in m pickup and seldom gets worn either. My other hat(s) are Klein V Guards like the one pictured. Those are on my bucket truck which is on a job 225 miles away. I bought three new ones back in September. One is still in the bag, or at least it was before the crew went out with the truck.

Let the ribbing begin! shakin[1].gif

I like the cowboy hard hat (wouldn't wear one but like it the some) our in house construction guy wears one and has for years. Now I have one question?? Why is the one in your hand so small ..... Never Mind I don't want to know.... Just don't answer that...... LA LA LA LA LA LA.

Those old dogs look like the have straighten a few expansion loops over the years.

Some manufacturers say 6 month and some say a year. In my opinion its best to be proactive if you are spending the money yourself to replace them. i think also if your work site is demanding or if you are just dropping your hard hat all the time (HAHA) and mistreating it than surely keep a close eye on it.
