  1. Near Misses?

Hi guys I'm on networking to networker were r u from
  2. Cable Helper

Cable helper is on network systems. This position is also known as groundman. I work on networking in Columbus as a cable splicer so I can tell u our groundman make between 19-22 bucks an hour depending if they have a CDL. If you get into the apprenticeship to become a cable splicer you will make between 35-39 bucks an hour.
  3. Child electrocuted in Lexington swimming pool

If i was a betting man the step potential theory would be why this happened. The pool is large enough and close enough to the down power line that the pool its self was in 2 or more potentials from the phase to ground rim. Again its just a working theory, but that would be my guess.
  4. Short cuts

Day in and day out we all are exposed to certain elements that could make out for a hazardous working environment. There are many occasions when people (My self included) has taken at least one short cut no matter how minor it maybe, in order to get the job done. Most of us lineman here has to do a JSA (Job Safety Analysis) on a daily bases. If done correctly this JSA is done first thing each morning, Laying out the job plan for the day, and any potential risks that could be involved. It also has a column for how to prevent or control the hazard you have listed.   The jsa is a good tool to have if done correctly. But lets be honest here, we have no bosses listening to us here. How many times have we done these JSA's and at least thought about how stupid they are and just hurry up and pencil whip it to get over with? I know i have been guilty of this. Problem with this is, the apprentice that does not have the experience is missing out on what could be life saving information.   Point im trying to make is, when you take shortcuts it doesn't just effect you, it effects your whole crew, and in worse cases it effects your family. Most of us view accidents as something that happens to someone else and not us. Simply fact is, when we get our selves in that comfort zone, thats when things tend to go bad. There is a saftey video that is called "REMEMBER CHARLIE" I highly urge everyone to watch this video. It is about an hour long but well worth it. A guy speaking in the video worked in a gas refinery and he talks about the shortcuts he took to get the job done. Only for him things went terribly wrong. I do caution you all, it does go to great detail of the accident and the way it effected his family. If any of you have seen the video plz take a minute and tell everyone what you remember most about the video.   Bobby
  5. I have a hard time believing that story. I am a union steward in ibew local 71, and im telling you guys, there is a big part of that story that has to be missing. The only way i can think of that ibew would do that, is if we were in a 10k hearing against the said utility company. However im in a different local, maybe all locals are not operated under the same type of leadership. But im fairly confident that our union would not turn down people in need with out just cause. Keep in mind, in most cases when we go on storm work, The minium we can make on the hour is time and a half of our home pay scale. The further south you go the lower the scale is. Maybe that company did not want to pay our rates...... I really think that money or some other political element had to be in place here.
