IBEW Local 1600 Members Ratify Agreement With PPL

ALLENTOWN, Pa., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Members of the Local 1600 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union have ratified a tentative agreement on a new, four-year labor contract with PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL - News).

"This contract is an important step toward ensuring PPL's competitiveness in coming years while continuing to provide excellent wages and benefits for our employees," said Ron Schwarz, PPL's vice president-Human Resources.

"The membership had a difficult decision to make, and the majority voted to accept the agreement," said Andy Wolfe, president of Local 1600.

The contract provides wage increases of 3.35 percent in each of the first two years and increases of 3.45 percent and 3.5 percent in the last two years. Union members also can receive annual incentive pay based on earnings per share targets. Other changes include improvements in retirement benefits, modifications in the health care provisions for both active employees and retirees, and changes in work rules that will help the company operate more efficiently.

Local 1600 represents about 3,500 PPL employees at company operations in Pennsylvania. It is the largest of the company's labor unions and the largest IBEW local in Pennsylvania. The previous four-year labor agreement expired at midnight Sunday, May 7. Local 1600 had agreed to continue working on a day-by- day basis until the new agreement was ratified.
