So how much do you think that all the basic lineman tools, with the belt, safety strap, and gaff's weigh? I just want to see how much extra weight all of us new guys have been surprised with.

Im in the CATV field so not sure how much you carry I carry two ditty bags volt meter, and a tool pouch also it has my stripper, compression tool, dikes, and a pair of 9s. My bags have fittings, taps, nut drivers, and god only knows what else. So between that and my pole strap id say my rig is about 35 pounds not including my hooks add another 5 to 7 pounds there

I would say close to 50 - 60 lbs

I just hit the poles for the first time last week. So as we were gearing up the guy next to me decided not to put all the tools in the bag. I figured I'd load up my side pouches with all my tools and climb like that. I'm going to have to eventually. Might aswell get used to it now.

Boy was I shocked when I got about 20' up. It was only like 25 pounds at the most.

And apparently it will only get heavier. :D

Yes it will get alot heavier, all your issued tools in your pouch, plus 18" bolt cutters, MD6 press, set of rope blocks along with your handline and a couple of pouchs of crimpets/split bolts, some tie wire and a couple of other things.

If you think you can get someone to send this up to you then you have got another thing coming, remember time is money to most crews---once you make journeyman maybe but don't count on it.

it all depends on how you arrange your work. while working as transmission lineman, its kinda useless to try climb with all the ***** geared in your harness/pockets. it doesnt matter when one goes up once, but when climbing towers above 75ft high, it really starts to wear out even the toughest of guys if he has something else besides small wrench, harness and kleins :D Dont actually know how much my full body harness weights but would roughly estimate it to be less than 7lbs and our "hooks" are pound/each, so prolly itll be around 10lbs what im carrying besides my own ass (236lbs) up to pole/tower ;)
