I am looking for some general fiber splicing prices.

1) $$ per splice
2) $$ to build out splice case with 2 tails? 3? 4? 5?

What would you charge to splice say 6 fibers, install a rack mount panel, break out fiber?
Do yo have an hourly charge? So many hour minimum?

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Hey Bro,
There are several dif breakdowns for fiber splicing.
Can I ask you if you are splicing it for Telephone or cable?
Do you have to provide shots? are most of the locations big or small?
Also I dont believe anyone would post there prices however they may send them in a pm?

$85.00 per splice.

$1250.00 per case/prep

Don't go a penny lower, that's rock bottom for this industry.

Just to think we splice fiber when its cut, and we get our hourly rate + OT if it's after 5... Must be nice to get that kind of pay.. I'm just glad my girl makes all the money.. No pay when you're an in house guy lol..

There isn't any money in it anymore. This all gets done in-house or on the cheap by somebody trying to get work. I sold my trailer and two of my splicers two years ago because they were costing me money. Fiber splicing for most of the big guys only works when it's part of a larger contract. The one guy I know that is making money right now is making most of it in maintenance and re-splice work, and because he landed a good gig with the power companies that are building wind towers in Iowa. He also had to invest in top notch test gear too, both to prove his work, and to test the existing fibers for the faster network speeds required in the telco rings. The last piece of gear he had to rent, and he split the cost up with a few independent telcos when he did it.

But, for what you are quoting here, I'd start the labor at $1500 per day, one day minimum, plus expenses. This is clearly a one day job, or less. Mark up any parts that you provide so that it's worth your time to get them.

Many companies only want to pay a per splice fee for outside splicing, and stick you for the breakout. Everyone knows that's the most time consuming part! I will always charge for my time, plus incidentals, not the amount of splices if I can help it.

Have fun!

And to think I do this for a hourly rate. I have to splice both coax and fiber and make the same either way.

Wow, 1987 prices!!

Where do I sign the contract?

For the past ten years the price per fiber, if you own the master contract, has been around $30-$32 with a 150 prep charge. This includes bi-directional OTDR- dual window (sometime tri-window) and power meter testing/doc.

Hourly rates are usually reserved for emergency restoration or trouble shooting jobs. I charge $85 per man hour, 2 hour minimum.
