IS DEALING WITH ELECTRICAL STUFF FROM SETTING A METER TO JUST CHECK VOLTAGE THAT THEY NEED TO HAVE ANOTHER PERSON WITH THEM.TILL THAT HAPPENS CO.WILL KEEP SENDING LINEMAN OUT BY THEM SELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IF CO'S
WOULD LOOK A THE TRAINING POSSIBILTY OF HAVING APPRENTICES RIDE WITH
A J-LINEMAN IT COULD BENFIT EVERYONE AND THINK OF THE SAFETY ASPECT
IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD TO THE CUSTOMER IF YOU SHOW TO DO A JOB AND YOU ARE BY YOURSELF IT WOULD GO TWICE AS FAST WITH TWO.BUT IT DOESN'T
MATTER HOW MUCH WE GRIPE ABOUT IT OR HOW MANY ACCIDENT OR LOSE OF LIFE CO'S LOOK AT THAT BOTTOM LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
STAY SAFE AND WATCH OUT FOR EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you on that man speaking from an Apprentice point of view I would love to be able to go out with Journyman on even a simple meter install just to get the chances to learn more tricks and to get to pick the Journymans brain about things not only would it help with saftey but the productivity would go up a ton. Our company rule is when the bucket goes up or a guy goes up in hooks there is one man on the ground normally we have two to three man crews once you get more than that unless its a big job you end up getting guys standing around. Since Im in the beginning of my Apprenticeship I still only get to climb and hit the bucket everynow and then but it makes me feel a little better knowing I have another set of eyes on the ground just in case im forgetting something or not being as safe as I could be.

Being a lineman in the cable industry we work solely alone. We go up in the bucket alone, gaf alone and run outages alone in the middle of the night. We have asked hundreds of times to have 2 people in each bucket truck, but the company says no. We work in storms and around power lines. We can be injured at night and nobody would know it happened. It's a little scary to think about. Luckily we have had no one get hurt, but it is bound to happen.

Hey I here you.... in 05' we made a go at the union thing 26 of us locally signed cards and I went to 2 meetings and the company found out and scared the shit out of those who signed...... we did not have enough to vote and 3 guys where gone in a week for odd reasons. That happened in my division but it was running threw the company

Something good did come about this we got shoe allowance better equipment and a few other things. I have a set and stood my ground when called by the GM and I'm still here.
It is much easer when you walk into a company that is unionized than breaking new ground.

Well,,, the only IBEW office that handles CATV in your area is Local 934 ,the business managers name is Roger Farmer #(432) 323-5411, call him and ask what they can do for you.
The IBEW represents catv ,tele, communications, NOT JUST Powerline lineman.
You can ask for representation from anybody you want, laborers union, cwa, even the same union your garbage guy is in if you want! If I was looking ,I would want the Union that dealt with my line if work, and that was the biggest!
You need to contact them ,and tell them you want to speak to them and you have other workers that want to do the same. You CANNOT get into trouble for seeking representation, there are laws against it.Look up "Wienberger" act. All you have to do is get a majority of the guys in your shop to want a Union, take a vote on it .If the vote is a "No" then it's back to the way thing were.If it's a "Yes" then you will enter negoeations(sp) to come up with a contract!
That's when you tell 'em you want better wages, safer working conditions, RETIREMENT, INSURANCE,things like that.
Likely they will counter , then you go back and forth , until you come up with an agreement!
If your company threatens you with your job,or loss of hours, they are in fact BREAKING the law!!
It wont happen overnight, but if you want a better place to work, and some BASIC rights, then you should look into it!
