Just an update on my Royer boots...

They were sent back to the factory and they supplied me with a new pair of boots.
No hassle, no problems.
They could have repaired them but they chose to replace them.

Thanks Royer.

Well my Hoffmans are finally breaking in some. I have a pair of the 10" poleclimbers and they are mighty comfortable. Got out on the steel today and was only up for a short time replacing a radio. The climb to 40' was very comfortable for sure. I can see how everyone loves these boots now.

My only complaint is how hard they are to break in. The part around the ankle and up is the most painful thing that I have ever experienced.

Little off topic here but Im just curious what everyone uses to waterproof their boots??

Personaly I use Dubin or mink oil, they both work well and keep the moisture out
There may be old Linemen, There may be careless Linemen. There are however, no old, careless Linemen!

Just and update on the halls boots I posted last year. They're a great work boot, but don't seem as comfortable as they should be after being on the pole for a while. I'm looking to get a dedicated climbing pair now, and probably will get the Hoffman 16" Pole Climbers. A few guys in class have the 10" and their shanks are noticably beefier than the halls.

Apparently Hoffman will resole any boot for about $90, but with as comfortable as the Halls are as a work boot, I'm probably just going to get a dedicated climber.

I use sno-seal. Works really nice.

It's a bees-wax mix. Stick the boots in the oven (low - around 150-200*) for a few minutes, then apply. It'll soak in. Definitely lasted longer than mink oil, imo.

BTW...I ordered 16" Hoffman Pole Climbers Monday smilie_daumenpos[1].gif

How do guys get away with having two different pairs of boots: one for climbing and one for groundwork?

My foreman would freak out if I had to change boots when I climbed. I think it would be kinda annoying always swapping out boots.

I wear Wesco Highliners now

Will be purchasing fitted Whites or Nicks Line boots next, have not decided which.

I tried that 2-1-3 lacing method when I first got my hoofmans. I thought i was going to die from the pain. The leather was just too stiff so I just laced them regularly and then wore them that way. Sometimes i'd loosen the lacing a bit to help with the flex. I wore them around the office and the guys gave me so much shit, but I'll tell you what, they are the most comfortable thing to wear now that they are broken in. I'll have to give the 2-1-3 method a shot again now that the leather is broken.

As far as a water repellant, I use this stuff on all my boots:
http://www.obenaufs.com/lp.php?osCsid=ae78...185b29edfe3b92c

It works awesome, and is way better than anything I have ever used.

I just finished my 5th week of my summer work program for the company I'm with now. I've climbed a total of two times bringing a combined 10 feet, lol. They don't like to climb there, and if they can get a truck in there they will. Kinda wish I hadn't bought the hoffmans now, but I know I'll use them once line-school starts up again.

The no-nonscence view of the leads/chiefs was definitely an eye opener compared to the crap they make us do at school. It's going to be interesting going back.
