started with redwings, not great but not bad until the fiberglass shank broke, then junk. got 16" caralina linemans on jan 26, 2010 did not wear them until middle of feb, comfortable but thursday i noticed a three inch split where the leather meets the sole. it split on the side not where it hit a shovel or anything just made like crap. traded them in for a new pair hoping to get 6 months out of but as soon as i got them home i noticed a hole in the side large enough to stick a finger through. returned them and got my money back. i didn't expect wesco quality for $180 but these things were not up to payless quality. i hoped becouse they are a union company the first pair was a fluke but i guess not. while unions are great for the working mand they are also great for the lazy bastard who doesn't care and wants to be protected while sitting on his ass doing as little as possible. today i ordered a set of hoffman 16" dri-lines i think they will be a hell of a lot better.

Back before we had an allowance re still had a requirement. I understand what your saying but they still have rules and you have to buy what they say is allow. I hate they just think boots last 2 years.

olo131

yea olo i use redwing i have a couple different pair i have my favorite style the 1412 the have goretex linning and a super sole thing man they are comfortable i have three pair of those they last me about 3yrs or so if i dont cut the upper or anything and you can have them resoled for 50bucks.I even climb in them with no problems. But if i am going to be climbing alot like say changing all the taps in a whole rear esement node then i use the other ones i have they are the 12inch 909's with the vibram sole and steel shank they work great fro climbing i thinkihave had the same pair for 5 yrs or so i just rub em with mink oil every month and they last.

what are you guys using for steel? i see most using danners but I think all boots will get eaten up. So cheap and durable(kind of an oxymoron).

I bought Hoffman Pole Climbers in school. They are the only boots Ive ever used so I cant compare them to anything. I really like them though.

I wear the Pole Climbers from Hoffman. The ones I have are not steel toe and now that I have issued a company-wide memo on PPE all footwear on site must be ST, so I have been wearing my Danner Super Quarry 2.0's. They have some kind of composite shank in them that is not too horrible for standing on steel all day, I really miss my H's though.... I think when I get some cash I will get another set of H's from their Powerline series that are ST and double shank.

If I was no help, I would've ignored you. But here I am, being helpful, telling you I have no experience with these. I mean, I could be even less help by lying to you and telling you I've worn them since birth. Or, and because I know you look up to me, if I had ignored your question I know you'll most likely be sitting up at night, unable to sleep, too young to drink, going silently crazy inside your head because you're waiting with baited breath on pins and needles for my reply. Now, I can sleep peacefully knowing you won't be kept awake just sitting there. Wondering.

You can thank me when you're ready to.

My purpose here is only to make your life easier. And I know you look up to me because I'm an inspiration - who you want to be and where you want to be in life, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact I'm 6'4". :showoff:

I'm 6'4", 220lbs, I'm also a Marine. I don't know precisely how much I can bench, but after looking at that chick I woke up next to the other night, I'm guessing 350-360!
