AND THE REST OF IT.....................IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN..................I'D DO IT THE SAME WAY
YES, OVER THE YEARS, IT'S COST ME A MARRIAGE/DIVORCE, AND MANY DAYS, WEEKS, AND HOURS AWAY FROM HOME AND THE FAMILY.........BUT BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU'VE GOT, AND WHERE YOU ARE NOW..............IT COULD BE A LOT WORSE

Pay/ Benefits that one tech gets isnt really any one elses business, unless it is two tech doing the same job for the same company and they are comparing notes.

Ok, let's see you keep it constant. If you really want to get technical, our t1's run at 48 meg but we're not allowed to advertise over 6meg. Not to mention our circuits are dedicated, anybody can run alot over one conductor. These good old power guys can attest to that and voltage drop across that one conductor as well.

T1, 48meg? I've never seen a T1 break 1.544Mbs.
Don't forget, everyone has to aggregate the connections at some point. CATV is just doing it closer to the home based on their network design. No one paying under $150/mo for their internet connection is getting a "guaranteed, dedicated speed" connection directly to the internet.

Maybe not where you are brother, at Bell, excuse me, at&t we guarantee it. Our provided software shows the speed at which it's running. And as far as a t1 only doing 1.5, that's downstream speed, the important side to a business is upstream. And the 22 lines they can carry over it. If you really want speed they can't touch just go to a DS3, we work on those regularly in HOMES around here!!!

The cable co offers IP to the network at your local ring.. neighborhood, subdivision, etc. Then they haul the rings back to their main hub and off to the local offerings and the general internet itself.
The telco offers IP right back into the main hub, then similarily off to local offerings and general internet.
Unless theres an app that can take advantage of having a local-loop ring like cableco, (I dunno, neighborhood entertainment channel ? gated community cameras ?) then there isnt much technical advantage of cableco approach.
Telco takes the "hacker" level of security back to the isp equipment.. where cableco local ring is ... ? (cant say Ive heard of hackers on a cablco compromising their neighbours...does it happen ??)
Service up-time.. cableco has the one (local) wire that, when in fault, takes down 50+ subs. But then, telco has a cable with many wee wires, any of which can go into fault, taking down that one sub. ( backhoe "Fade" would take em all out in both cases of course)
I think "who's gonna win" is probably on a case-by-case basis.. affected by image, advertising, price point, quality of service/repair/installation times, vertical service offerings, and depth of pockets.
And Im bettin' on telco.

Last I heard T1's were 1.544 Mbps both up and down, anything else is another technology such as, ADSL, VDSL, or HDSL. 48 Mbps sounds a lot like a VDSL connection while a DS3 is around 43 Mbps. I'd be curious to see what kind of equipment you guys are implementing.

On the DS3's it's straight off a fiber, the customer basically has a mini-slc in their house.

They won't compete.
They are taking everything they can out of the company to get as much profit as possible then they'll sell the entire works, probably this year or next.
Bell is outsourcing everything they can overseas to India.
It can't last much longer at this rate.
Stocks are bound to go up at least once more then I suspect the end will come.
Four more years, four more years , four more years.... then I don't care what they do.
We've been digging this grave far too long and too deep to crawl out now.
We're not happy ...until you're not happy
