I was always taught A over C too, but I've always wondered something.  When bonding aluminum to copper you always use an aluminum connector-one bolt, two bolt, three bolt, squeeze on, ampac, etc...  Now being that connector is made of aluminum, and wrapped around the copper(A over C), does it really matter the position of the wires being the aluminum is already over the copper?

This might have already been posted but I really didn't feel like reading all of it.
I was always told that the chemical reaction will not travel upward towards the aluminum conductor if the AL is on top. But, if the CU is on the top, then the stuff will leak down all over the place no matter how much inhibitor is being used. confused-smiley-013[1].gif

my old man always told me " A over C" Aluminum over Copper. "A over C" is just a easy way to rememebr it, A comes before C so thats a easy way for me to remember it.
Its better to Prepare and Prevent than it is to Repair and Repent.

I'm a A over C man also. The main reason for corosion is disimiliar metals with no inhibitor. Continual problems are a result of not cleaning the conductor. "Copperweld is a must clean ,and not only when it's green." I tend to favor fargoes versus other one bolts, or sqeeze-ons. At the secondary if you think you have found the offending connection.... clean behind it {house side} both wires, and put your knife across them and see if the lights get brighter. I would suggest using the knife backside as ,Im terrible at knife sharpening to get little knicks filed out. Just a heads up ,as I had to learn these the hard way . At the weatherhead look for some melting of the insulation.... the cause .... a loose connection, or bad connection. Be safe, 1 Electro-man

OR........
IF YOU SUSPECTA NEUTRAL PROBLEM....PUT YOUR CLAMP ON AMMETER ON THE GRD WIRE, BETWEEN THE METER CAN, AND GRD ROD------------ANY AMPERAGE WILL BE WHERE IT IS TRYING TO FIND A RETURN PATH--AKA GROUND/NEUTRAL...............OR JUST USE THE 'SUPER BEAST'---IT PLACESA LOAD ON THE CONDUCTORS, AND TELLS YOU REAL QUICK IF THE PROBLEM IS THE CUSTOMERS, OR THE UTILITY Voskl1[1].gif

I HAVE USED IT TO TRACK DOWN A BAD SECONDARY NEUTRAL CONNECTION (A-C)---3 SPANS FROM THE METER LOOP Voskl1[1].gif
